Lesson 101 - What is Brahmacharya?

New Visitors: It is recommended you read from the beginning of the archive, as previous lessons are prerequisite to this one. The first lesson is, “Why This Discussion?”

Q: What is brahmacharya?

A: Brahmacharya means, “walking in Brahma,” or “walking in the creative force of God.”

This is commonly translated to mean celibacy, but it does not mean only that. It really means preservation and cultivation of the creative life force, the sexual energy, which can be either in celibacy or in tantric sexual relations. These two modes of behavior produce the same outcome, for both involve preservation and cultivation of sexual energy upward into the divine processes rising in the nervous system through advanced yoga practices.

The approaches to brahmacharya will be discussed in more detail in the Q&As of the new tantra group once we get through the basic techniques over there. If you have not been there yet, there is a link here in the main group in the recent tantra lesson, or you can find it at:
